Train Stop Workshops with Freight Train is a special type of clinic dedicated to brand-new or beginner-level roller derby skaters.
Why? It's not often that I get to work with this group of skaters solely and I want to. I think have valuable things to share that will help you start your journey in roller derby! It's hard watching beginner-level skaters on the sidelines just watching my clinic or not being actively engaged in a way that suits their needs.…

C1 - Sing Leg Bal. &Crossovers
This class will feature a quick overview of two basic skating skills. Single Leg Balance and Crossovers. Though each basic skill was originally a class of its own, we will do approximately 20-30 min of single-leg balance drills and 30-40 breaking down crossovers. It's time to take and give hits, are you ready? In this class we will talk about to give and receive while on skates! We'll talk about transferring your weight in order to take a hit, multiple different ways to receive a hit, keeping our head on a swivel, falling, and countering hits.

Need a fresh approach to running on your toe stops? Consider this class! We will be starting from a simple toe pick and then building up to 3-5 consecutive toe stop runs forward. Once we got that down, we will begin exploring lateral movement on "the Tripod" of our skates. Step by Step we will level up. You choose where you want to focus and how far you want to go!

Jamming 101 Key Element course focuses on bare-bone basics of Jamming. Skating around and against bodies, getting lead, skating a Lap...or Two, and getting points. We are going to keep it pretty simple, discussing ONE of the common methods of jamming: Agility/Lateral Jamming! Be sure to check out the other versions of this class sometime in the future! Other Versions: Strength & Power Jamming, Point Strategy, Play to the Clock, and more!

This class will focus on Working with Others & Bracing Blocking 101 Key Elements courses is a series of classes focusing on the bare-bones basics of stopping a jammer. Not sure how to plow, move laterally, or work with others? These are the key elements of blocking. Similar to the Jamming 101 class we are keeping it simple and working on ONE of the elements above to get you first game OR first 5 games ready!

This is a game-play endurance class. There will be NO EXPLANATION of "how to play roller derby". (Ex: How to open up walls, Where should my foot be, etc) This class features continuous blocker/jammer drills for a good workout! It's a workout class! Water breaks are taken at your leisure or while I quickly explain the next drill. This class is best for experienced skaters who are confident playing with others full throttle!

In this class, we will be working on ways to combat tripod formations by ourselves! This specific class will feature "Ways to Cut Through a Tripod" at a stop and while coming in with speed! There are many ways to defeat an evil tripod, but we only have time for one topic today! Check out other versions of this class! (Going through Tripods, around them, and pushing them in the most effective way possible This class is for everyone, but it's best for skaters with some gameplay experience!

Let's work on various ways to sneak by or aggressively take the inside and outside lines of the derby track. This is a mixed-level class, but best for skaters with some gameplay experience.
